Main conferences, panels & keynotes

Draco Rosa, who in recent years has developed a commitment to collective mental health care and support, spoke with psychotherapist Nancy Becerra about the construction of such initiatives.

Speakers: Draco Rosa and Nancy Becerra

In the music business, success comes with love at first sight, but above all with collaborators that last over time. Contacts, networks and finding the right ally are not things you learn by reading the tarot card, but through long-term relationships where, many times, the face of the saint makes the miracle and it is better to have friends than a budget. The CEOs behind the careers of J Balvin and Bomba Estéreo and two managers who work with the most promising Latin talent talk about this with a journalist and writer like few others in America.

Speaker: Camila Saravia, Ulia Moreno, Ivan Alarcón and Nicolas Mateus.

Four top industry professionals will talk about the challenges that internationalisation poses to their careers, with the added bonus of being a woman. Under the baton of Colombian anthropologist and journalist Simona Sánchez, the panel will feature the voices of renowned Chilean figure Francisca Valenzuela, Argentinean Catnapp, a talent we know from the series Unorthodox, and Diana Rodríguez from Criteria Entertainment, an artist promoter that is celebrating ten years.

Speakers: Simona Sánchez, Francisca Valenzuela, Catnapp, Diana Rodríguez

Latin American music is global, yes, but we are interested in knowing, first hand, how North American and European promoters live this new paradigm. What are the trends? What are the profiles of the artists that have the best chances of reaching international stages and the ears of millions of festival-goers? At BIME Bogotá we will have some answers to these questions.

Speakers: Chris Kellog, Erike Elliot, Marc Ventosa, Andy Wood and Alicia Zertuche.

Never before has the task of finding a new way to find solutions to society’s most pressing problems been as urgent as it is today. Today, we live in a world facing the challenges of climate change, extreme poverty reduction; a polarised world mired in armed conflict, with massive displacement of refugees and which, after the second year of the covid-19 pandemic, will leave the planet with even deeper socio-economic gaps than those that already existed. Today, we must think differently and understand that our actions every day have an impact on the planet. We will talk about how today, thousands of companies around the world are adopting purpose in their DNA to become agents of change.

Speakers: María López

J Balvin may well be the Colombian artist with the most number 1 hits on the charts and platforms. But when it comes to a collection of sports shoes, his manager, Fabio Acosta, is likely to take the plaudits. An achievement that is no more than anecdotal, for one of the most influential power players and professionals not only in the urban genre but in the whole industry, recognised by publications as disparate as Billboard and Variety, and with a start to his career in which metal and electronica taught him more than people imagine.

Speakers: Fabio Acosta, Chucky Garcia

Latin American talent is indisputably global and the big multinational agencies have successfully adapted their rosters to this new reality. Rosters in which the Anglo-Saxon headliners have had to make room for new Spanish-speaking talent. We have invited some of the players in this new reality to tell us how they are taking their clients to levels they could not have dreamed of 20 years ago.

Speaker: Lalo Rojas, Enrique Abreu

SIMPATÍA POR LA INDUSTRIA MUSICAL, the SUBTERFUGE RADIO podcast, arrives at BIME BOGOTÁ. A special edition, where personalities such as Diana Rodriguez, Tomas Cookman, Alfonso Santiago and Carlos Galan himself, presenter of the programme, will reflect on the reasons or circumstances that led them to work in the music industry, which, as in most cases, arises spontaneously. We will talk a lot about music, the love for it and little, or nothing, about algorithms.

Speakers: Carlos Galan, Diana Rodriguez, Alfonso Santiago, Tomas Cookman

Bill Reichert is a partner at Pegasus Tech Ventures, focusing on deep technology investments such as AI, quantum computing, next-generation chips, materials science and medical technology. He is also chief evangelist for the Startup World Cup, the largest and richest venture capital competition on the planet, with over $1.5 million in prize money, including a $1 million grand prize.

Speakers: Bill Reicher, Paula Barrientos

In 2015, together with Carlos Vives, he created the Tras La Perla initiative, which works in the city of Santa Marta and the surrounding ecoregion, generating strategies and projects for relevant and sustainable development in the Pescaíto neighbourhood, the Sierra Nevada and the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta. In 2016, another of Carlos’ dreams materialised with the creation of the Río Grande music school; it is a space where diverse artistic experiences converge based on the dialogue between Colombian music, new local proposals and world music. The spirit of the school is based on strengthening emotional bonds through music, creating positive emotions and strengthening the concept of Colombianness with its own sound, inspired by the concept of “El rock de mi pueblo” by Carlos Vives. In 2019 he structures and relaunches together with Carlos the label Gaira Música Local to work with artists from a contemporary vision of identity, promote new talents and develop Colombian music. As well as the Cumbia House, entertainment centre to live the experience of the Vives Universe in all its musical, gastronomic and artistic potential.

Speakers: Claudia Elena Vasquez, Leila Cobo

In 1972, four students at the University of Washington in Seattle had an idea. The university – and the city – needed a radio station where students could learn the art of broadcasting and listeners could discover the music. From that idea, KCMU was born.

50 years later, the acronym has changed, the audience has grown and it has become a global community, but the station, still maintains its essence, doing things its own way, elevating artists of all backgrounds, encouraging DJs to be their true selves, speaking up when others are silent, and making KEXP a place where you gather and not just something you listen to.

Speakers: José Manuel Sebastián, Chris Kellog, Albina Cabrera.

As the line between streaming platforms, distributors, record labels and artists continues to blur, guests will discuss the value of independent music companies and the impact of technology on new marketing models, as well as current and future trends in digital music production and distribution in Latin America.

Speakers: Noemi Planas, Rocío Fuentes, Tweety Gonzalez, Eddy Gomez, Fabio Andrés Rendón.
